This is my first blog entry so hang in there folks and I apologize in advance for any crimes I may commit against the English language or the art of writing. Also I apologize if I ramble on, I tend to do that..
I am beginning a new chapter in my life with this blog. I am very excited for the journey to come from it. I never was a fan of reading when I was growing up, if there was a way to get away with not reading required books in school, I have done it.. But as I grew older I became much more fond of reading especially non-fiction books. My first book that I read through and loved was Hunter S. Thompson’s book Hells Angels: The strange and terrible saga of the outlaw motorcycle gangs. Then I moved on to other motorcycle themed books like “The Original Wild Ones: Tales of the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club” (a must read). Soon enough I started reading outdoors books by Teddy Roosevelt like “Hunting the Grizzly and Other Sketches”. Gene Hill is another that has been a huge influence on me, if you have not read his stuff look him up and start to and if you don’t want to buy a bird dog by the end of any of his books then you missed the point! I also am a huge fan of adventure books and books on people enduring the unimaginable (ultra-marathon stories like “And Then The Vultures Eats You”) I love reading about people overcoming odds, but then who doesn’t enjoy a good story with a happy ending!
I am not comparing myself in any way to any of these writers or books. I just want you to have an understanding of who some of my influences are. Reading has become a huge part of my life now that I realize it’s not a chore but actually something that is very enjoyable. It is much like running to me, up until 4 years ago I hadn’t ran over a mile ever. Then I read a book “Born to Run” by Chris Mcdougall and realized that running should be something we enjoy and that attitude will effect the enjoyment we get from it.
That’s all I have for this post, let me know if there are any must haves on your list that I should get, one day I will do a post on all of my favorites but that is something that will take some time to work up!
Hang in there everyone soon enough I will have a hunting story up, I am working on Part 1 of My First Archery Season now and I will be truthful about all the silly mistakes I made.
Thanks for reading, now feel free to go outside and do something fun!
Please feel free to comment, good or bad.
