The Easiest Roast You Will Ever Make-
Last year at deer camp my Uncle Lee brought some stew to throw on the wood stove when we left for our stands in the morning. When we came in frozen from sitting in a stand in the Northwoods of MN there was piping hot venison stew waiting on us. Little did I know that this was going to become one of my favorite meals. So thank you Lee for the recipe.
This recipe is the easiest and best tasting roast I have ever made. It also is the healthiest!
Roast of your choice (We use Venison or Elk but I am sure that Pork or beef would be fine too) 2-4 lbs cubed
Potatoes 3-5 medium size cubed
Celery 3-5 sticks chopped
Original V8 juice 32 ounces
Onion 1 medium chopped onion
Carrots 4-6 carrots pealed and chopped
To start dice your roast and brown for a few minutes then throw them in a warmed up Crock Pot. Next wash your veggies and cut em up. I save the heads and butts(tops and bottoms) of the celery and put them in my feed pile for deer to munch on. Throw the cut up veggies in the Crock Pot along with the V8. I like to put this on low for 6-8 hours. If I do this on the weekends I will stir occasionally. During the week I just let it sit, either way is fine.
Salt and Pepper to taste. If you want to thicken it up even more one thing that we have done is added wild rice the pairing is perfect. Almost like an up north version of Jambalaya.
For us roasts have never been our favorite but this year we ran out of game roasts in 2 months…
